This is my diary, I like to write things down so I don't forget them. My latest bit of writing is at the bottom

May 10th 2006
4 weeks and 1 day old

Mummy and Daddy have only just found out I’m here, and they are very excited.  I am only the size of an apple pip, and I don’t look very much like a baby yet, but I have all the information I need to grow arms, legs, a heart, and all the other things I’ll need for when I’m born.

May 21st 2006
5 weeks and 5 days old

I am now half a centimetre long, and my heart is the size of a poppy seed.  It isn’t beating yet, but it is starting to form the important chambers.  I look more like a tadpole than a human, but I will change very quickly.
Mummy is feeling very tired, and her back hurts, but isn’t feeling sick yet.
Mummy and Daddy told Granny and Granddad Ahearn and Nanny and Granddad Watt that I am here this week.  They were all very excited, because I am going to be the very first grandchild for all of them.  It’s an important job, and I hope I can do it well.

May 28th 2006
6 weeks and 5 days old

I am now the size of a lentil, and my head looks very large.  I have dark spots where my eyes will be, and little holes which will be my nose and ears.
I have got little buds for arms and legs, which look a little like paddles, and I can now move, but mummy can’t feel me yet.
My heart is beating at 150 beats per minute, which is twice as fast as mummy’s (which would sound very loud in here, if I could hear!).
Mummy is feeling a little sick when she gets hungry, so she has to eat lots of little snacks.  I am being nice to her so far!

June 5th 2006
7 weeks and 6 days old

I am half an inch long now, and I have webbed fingers and toes.  My palate and my first teeth are starting to form, which is important to mummy, because she is a dentist.
If you could see me, you would see all my veins because my skin is paper thin.
Mummy isn’t feeling sick anymore, but is still a little tired.  I think that’s because she had a very busy weekend entertaining my 4 new Grandparents and my Uncle Trevor and Auntie Lindsay.

June 10th 2006
8 weeks and 4 days old

I am now known as a foetus, rather than an embryo, and I am 1.6 centimetres long.
My tail has gone, and all my organs, muscles, and nerves are beginning to function. My hands now bend at the wrist, and my feet have begun to lose their webbed appearance.  I am stating to form eyelids as well.
My mummy isn’t feeling any pregnancy symptoms at all.  I think she is starting to worry a bit about this, as many babies don’t make it this far, but I’m OK.  I’m just being nice!

June 17th 2006
9 weeks and 4 days old

I am now 2.3 cm long and I look a bit like a peapod.  I weigh less than a tenth of an ounce or 2 grams. My fingers and toes are clearly visible and my arms are growing longer and bend at the elbows. The inner workings of my ears are complete, and my eyelids are tightly shut.  My genitals have begun to form, but mummy and daddy won’t know what sort they are until my Birthday!
Mummy is starting to feel a bit fat, but doesn’t really look very pregnant.  She is still feeling fine, but a bit tired.

June 20th 2006
9 weeks and 3 days old

My age has changed because mummy and daddy now know a more accurate date for my birthday, because mummy had to go to hospital for an emergency scan.
This was because mummy got very upset that she didn’t have any pregnancy symptoms and thought I had died.  Her blood pressure was very very high because she was so worried.
When mummy and daddy saw me for the first time, I waved at them and jumped up to show them I was OK.  Daddy saw my heart beating, and mummy was very relieved.
My first picture is in the pictures section of my site if you want to see it.
I am now 2.8 cm long.

July 4th 2006
11 weeks and 3 days old

I am 4 cm long from my head to my bum now, and I have all my parts!
My vital organs - liver, kidneys, intestines, brain, and lungs -are all fully formed and functional.  My head is almost half the length of my entire body, but it won’t be when I’m born I hope!  My spine is visible and spinal nerves stretch out from the spinal cord.  My fingers and toes have now fully separated.
Mummy is feeling fine now she knows I am OK.

July 9th 2006
12 weeks and 1 day old

Mummy had another scan this week which was called a ‘dating scan’ although she already knows what date I am due.
I was very active and I moved lots and lots when the scan was being done.  The sonographer was very impressed with my activities!
I am 5.9 cm long now, I look like a proper baby on my scan photo which is in the pictures section and I weigh slightly less than half an ounce or 14 grams.
I have developed more reflexes, like touching the palms would make my fingers close, touching the soles of my feet makes the toes curl down and touching my eyelids makes the eye muscles clench.  I also wriggle when mummy’s tummy is prodded, but she can’t feel it yet.
Mummy and daddy have told all their friends that I am here now.  I think they were all a bit surprised, but very happy for the three of us.

July 16th 2006
13 weeks and 1 day old

I am now nearly 3 inches or 7 to 8 cm long from head to bum and weigh nearly an ounce.   My very own unique fingerprints are in place, but I hope a policeman won’t ever have to record them, when I am a big person!
Mummy has a very bad back now, and it is stopping her from sleeping, which isn’t good.
She is feeling a bit fat now as well, as her tummy is starting to stick out.

July 30th 2006
15 weeks and 1 day old

Mummy and daddy celebrated their 3rd Wedding Anniversary last week, but Mummy couldn’t have a drink because of me!
I am 11 cm long from head to bum, my body is now growing faster than my head and my legs are longer than my arms.
I weigh 2.5 ounces and my skin is covered with a funny sort of hair called lanugo, which will disappear before I am born.
Mummy’s back is still very sore, and she is getting very hot and bothered because it is the summer.  She is a bit grumpy about this because she never usually feels the heat.  Sorry Mummy.

August 6th 2006
16 weeks and 1 day old

I am now the size of a funny fruit called an avocado, which is about 11.6 cm long, and I weigh 4 ounces.
I am practicing breathing the fluid that I am floating in, and my new favourite toy is my umbilical cord, which I like to tug on.
Mummy’s back is still very sore, so she has started doing yoga, and seeing a chiropractor who said her back was very bad, and needs lots of help to make it better.
Mummy said she doesn’t mind as long as it helps her get some sleep.

August 14th 2006
17 weeks and 2 days old

I am now 13 cm long from head to bum and I weigh approximately 5 ounces. My skeleton is mostly rubbery cartilage, which will harden later and a protective substance called myelin is slowly beginning to wrap around my spinal cord.
Mummy’s back is feeling a lot better, but she still has to see the chiropractor lots.  She went to see her GP, who put a special monitor on her tummy so she could hear my heart beat for the very first time.

August 21st 2006
18 weeks and 2 days old

I am now approximately 14.2 cm long and I weigh about 7 ounces.
Mummy felt me move for the very first time a couple of days ago, and she was very excited.
She is getting fatter now, but Daddy is being a bit mean, and called her new work clothes ‘fatty fatty boom boom’ tunics. Daddy is very lucky that Mummy isn’t a grumpy pregnant lady.

August 28th 2006
19 weeks and 2 days old

I am 15 cm long from head to bum and I weigh about 9 ounces.
I have started to swallow amniotic fluid, although it doesn’t taste very nice, and my kidneys are making urine. I am starting to grow hair on my head now.
My nerve cells serving each of the senses - taste, smell, hearing, seeing, and touch - are now developing in their special areas of the brain and my nerve cell production has slowed down as my nerve cells grow bigger and make more complicated connections.
I have been moving around lots this week, and kicking mummy nice and hard.  Daddy heard my heart beat for the very first time, which he enjoyed a lot.

September 4th 2006
20 weeks and 2 days old

I measure 16.5 cm from head to bum and I am now covered in a whitish coat of a slick, fatty substance called vernix caseosa, which protects my skin, and will help Mummy on my birthday.
I was scanned again today, for the doctors to check that all my organs and my cord, and Mummy’s placenta are all OK.
I was very scrunched up, practicing my yoga, when it was done, so the sonographer couldn’t see everything she needed to very easily.  I can’t help it if they booked my scan for my sleepy time!  They even tried poking mummy and tilting the bed up really far to move me, but I didn’t want to.  I was comfy like that!  Mummy says I’m just like my awkward Daddy.
All my parts are OK, and I am growing well - although my tummy is very slightly bigger than it should be.  Mummy says this is like Daddy too!
My picture is with the others in the picture section of the site.

September 12th 2006
21 weeks and 3 days

I now weigh about three-quarters of a pound and I’m approximately 27 cm long from crown to heel. My eyebrows and eyelids are fully developed and my fingernails cover my fingertips.
I can hear lots of what’s going on now, and I move lots when there are loud noises like at the cinema, or when mummy is drilling a tooth!
Mummy and Daddy have painted my new room, which used to be Daddy’s office.  I can’t wait to see it!

September 18th 2006
22 weeks and 2 days

I am getting big!  I now weigh almost one pound and measure nearly 11 inches long.  I have the proportions of a newborn baby, but I am much thinner and wrinklier, because I haven’t got any baby fat yet. My lips and eyes have formed, but my eyes aren’t coloured yet.  I wonder if they’ll be brown like mummy’s or blue like daddy’s.  My pancreas, which is essential for making hormones, is developing steadily.
Mummy’s tummy has suddenly shot out, and she has her first stretch mark, which she isn’t happy about.
Nanny and Granddad Watt bought me my pram this weekend.  It’s a Silver Cross one and a nice navy blue colour.  Mummy says this is so I can’t make it look too dirty.

September 25th 2006
23 weeks and 2 days old

I weigh a little over 1lb now and measure about 29 cm from crown to heel.
My hearing is getting good now, and I can hear Mummy’s voice, the beating of her heart and her tummy rumbling (which happens every day at about 11am!)
Mummy went to see her midwife again for a check-up, and everything is fine.  Mummy’s tummy is getting really big now!

October 2nd 2006
24 weeks and 2 days

I now weigh more than 1.3 pounds/ 600 grams and I am well proportioned although I am still quite thin and have very fragile skin. My brain is growing rapidly, and I am really starting to fill mummy’s tummy - I measure about 30 cm long.
Daddy has felt me move now, which he thought was really exciting.  I was kicking mummy really hard at the time!

October 9th 2006
25 weeks and 2 days

I am 35 cm long and I weigh about 1.5lbs. I am practicing my breathing, but not with proper air yet.  That will have to wait until my birthday!
Mummy has seen me move her tummy, which made her laugh.  I gave her a really big kick when she was relaxing in the bath, and it made her tummy bulge out.
She is starting to get tired again, because I am getting big now, and stealing all her energy.  Her tummy aches when she walks too far, and she has had to put her favourite high heeled boots in the cupboard because they make her feet hurt and her ankles swell up now.

October 17th 2006
26 weeks and 3 days

I am now a porky 1.6 lbs and I measure about 35.6 cm.  I can now open my eyes and I respond really well to sounds because the nerves in my ears have finished developing.
Mummy is still a bit achy, and tired.  Ha! She should wait until I come along - then she’ll be tired.  Hee hee!

October 23rd 2006
27 weeks and 2 days

I weigh nearly 2 pounds and I am about 36.6cm long.  My brain is developing lots and lots at the moment, and the surface is starting to appear grooved, like a big person’s.  I have started dreaming now, but I can never remember them when I wake up!
Mummy and Daddy went to the baby show in Earl’s Court this week, where they bought me all my nappies.  They are going to use reusable nappies, as their rubbish is only collected once a fortnight.  They thought it might be a bit too smelly in the summer with 100 nappies in the bin!
They also bought a video monitor for my room, so they can watch me sleep after I am born.  Daddy enjoyed talking nerdy to the people on the stands, but Mummy was a bit confused!
Mummy is getting pain in her pelvis when she walks now, which she doesn’t like very much, and Daddy says she is waddling, which she really doesn’t like!

31st October 2006
28 weeks and 3 days

Mummy says we’re now in the home stretch, whatever that means.  I now weigh nearly 2.3 pounds measure 38 cm from top to toe.
I can open my eyes and turn my head, especially if a bright light is shone at me, and I am starting to get fat.
Mummy’s pelvis still hurts a lot, and she is starting to find it painful to walk.  I hope she is better after my birthday, because I want to go out in my new pram, and I need her to push it!

November 6th 2006
29 weeks and 2 days

My head is getting bigger, and my brain is growing rapidly now.  I weigh 2.5lbs and I am 38cm long.
My special private parts are forming, but Mummy and Daddy still don’t know what sort they are!
Mummy is getting fed up of work now, and is looking forward to stopping.  This is because her pelvis hurts and she gets very tired during the day.  I’m also getting in the way of her working because I’m so big!
Sometimes when I kick her it is really hard and surprises her for a bit!  I won’t be able to kick like that for much longer, because it’s getting really cramped in here now.

November 13th 2006
30 weeks and 2 days

My lungs and my digestive tract are nearly fully formed now, and I am about 40cm long.  I can see what’s going on in here now, as my eyes are working quite well but I will only be able to focus on things about 12ins away when I am born.
Mummy saw her chiropractor again, who has managed to help her pelvis a lot, so she is very pleased.
Mummy and Daddy tried listening to my heart again this week, but I didn’t want to be disturbed, so I decided to kick the machine out of the way.  It made them both laugh a lot.  Mummy says I am being an awkward Watt again!

November 21st 2006
31 weeks and 3 days

I now weigh about 3lbs 5oz and I am about 41cm long.  I am really starting to fill out now, which is good because it will be very cold outside when I am born, and I will need to keep warm.  I have been practicing going to the toilet, but only number 1’s at the moment!
Mummy’s midwife has diagnosed her pelvis pain as SPD, and she felt very sorry for her.
Mummy is not sleeping very well anymore, but she had better get used to that…

November 26th 2006
32 weeks and 1 day

I am about 3lbs 12oz now, and I’ve grown another centimetre – that makes me 42cm long.
I have been really wriggling and rolling around in Mummy’s tummy lately.  She says it feels like I am trying to escape through her tummy wall!  It’s just because I’m running out of space in here.
Mummy is finding it very hard to work now, because she can’t really bend over, and it is a real effort if she drops anything!
Granddad Ahearn put the new floor down in my bedroom this weekend. It will be perfect for drawing on with crayons!  Daddy was supposed to be helping, but ended up making lots of cups of tea.

December 6th 2006
33 weeks and 4 days

I now weigh about 4lbs 3oz, although Mummy’s GP said I am a very good size, so I might be a bit bigger!  I am 44cm long, and my head is now downwards, ready for my grand entrance into the world.
My bones are getting hard now, but my head is still soft, to make it a bit easier for Mummy on my birthday.
Mummy had some pains in her tummy this week, which she was a bit worried about, but the midwife said as long as I’m still wriggling, it should be OK.  I’ll see what I can do!

December 13th 2006
34 weeks and 4 days

I am about 45cm long and weigh about 4lbs 10oz.  My nervous system is still developing, but my lungs are nearly done!  This means if I decide to make an early appearance, I will only need a little help from the nice doctors and nurses.  I think I’ll wait a bit longer though.
I got the hiccups for the first time this week.  I didn’t like it very much, but there was nothing I could do to get rid of them.  Mummy felt very sorry for me.
Mummy has finished work now, which she is very pleased about, as it means she can try and rest a bit more, and get the house ready for when I come.

December 19th 2006
35 weeks 3 days

I now weigh about 5lbs 4oz, and I am swimming in much less fluid now.  I have nice new fingernails and a fully developed pair of kidneys. My liver can also process some waste products.
I have got a new trick of wedging my foot or knee under Mummy’s ribs.  I don’t think she likes it much though, as she keeps trying to push it back down again.
Mummy and Daddy started to build my furniture this week, and it looks really nice.  I don’t think they were impressed with how difficult it was though, as they are normally very good at building stuff.  I can’t wait to see it when it’s finished.
Mummy’s bump is aching a lot, especially at night, which is making it even harder for her to sleep.  Sorry Mummy – just getting you ready for January!

December 27th 2006
36 weeks 4 days

I now weigh nearly 6lbs and I’m about 45cm long, but Mummy’s midwife said there’s still a bit of room for me to grow!
My new favourite game is rolling over in Mummy’s tummy, which makes her bump go into some very funny shapes.  Daddy thinks this is a really good game, but I think Mummy finds it a bit uncomfortable.
We’ve had Christmas this week, and I even got some presents from Mummy and Daddy’s friends.  I hope I get lots more next year!
Mummy can’t eat very much at the moment, because I am squashing her tummy, and giving her heartburn.  Also, because her belly is so big, she can’t get very close to her plate!  I think she is looking forward to me dropping down a bit.

January 3rd 2007
37 weeks and 4 days

Well, my birthday month is finally here, and all of my organs are fully developed, and ready for my Birthday – whenever I decide that is.
I am about 6lbs 8oz and 50cm long, and I’ve started to lose the fluffy hair that was all over my body called lanugo, and the white greasy coating called vernix caseosa.
Mummy can eat a bit better now, because my head has now dropped down into her pelvis, and given her stomach some room.  She is finding walking really uncomfortable though, and she keeps needing to visit the toilet!
Mummy’s fingers have swollen up a lot, and she has had to take off her wedding and engagement rings, which she is a bit upset about.
My important job from now until my birthday, is getting nice and fat, so that I’m not too cold when I come out.

January 9th 2007
38 weeks and 3 days

I am now about 7lbs and I’m getting myself ready to be born now.  My head has started to engage in Mummy’s pelvis, which means she keeps visiting the toilet!
Her fingers have really swollen up, and her blood pressure has gone up, so the doctor said she has to rest.  I am still finding a bit of room to move in Mummy’s tummy, but it’s a bit snug now!

January 17th 2007
39 weeks and 4 days

Mummy is finding it very difficult to sleep now I am so big.  I can still wriggle and kick her, and my head has moved down even more now, but I think I might wait a bit longer before I appear!  I weigh about 7lbs 8oz now, and I’m about 51cm long.

January 20th 2007
40 weeks my due date!

Hee Hee!  I’m still here!  I have decided that it’s a bit too comfy in here, and I’d like to stay for a while longer.  I don’t think Mummy is impressed, but then she shouldn’t have made it so nice for me!
Mummy is eating lots of spicy food, and taking lots of supplements to try and get me to come out.  She can do what she likes.  I’ll come when I’m ready!

January 22nd 2007
2 days over due

Still here!  Mummy held a newborn baby today.  That’s supposed to get me to come out.  I don’t think so!

January 24th 2007
4 days overdue

I’m still here, but it’s gone a bit cold.  Mummy’s waters have broken, so my nice comfy pool has disappeared.  Poor Mummy had to go to hospital, and they have told her if I don’t come on my own in the next 48hours, they will get me out themselves.  It’s called an induction I think.  Not sure I like the sound of that.

January 26th 2007
My Birthday

You can read all about my exciting Birthday in the other section of my diary.
